Top-Level Invitational Presented by COBRA PUMA Golf at Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course

 

 The re-born amateur golf tournament conducted by the team from Flagstick Golf Magazine (Flagstick.com) and played at the Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course in Lansdowne, Ontario is back for 2024.

 

 

The original iteration of the Flagstick.com Shootout tournament ran for almost a decade, beginning in 2009, and featured a field of 72 players chosen by application in a 36-hole competition on the layout regarded as one of the best in Eastern Ontario.

 

 

The event, which returned in 2023 to much praise, will see competition take place this year on on July 13/14, 2024, with the tournament presented by COBRA-PUMA Golf and additionally supported by Gananoque Chev.

 

Last year's tournament saw club member Charles Pal lead after day one but Canadian collegiate standout Conor Gaudet (Wilfrid Laurier University) surged to the forefront and captured the title with a total score of -7 (70-67).

 

"I haven’t won anything in awhile so to win the Shootout feels pretty good," Gaudet shared about the win. The victory propelled him to a successful Fall season where he won two Ontario University Sport Individual titles.

The 72-player field at the Flagstick.com Shootout will be chosen by a committee from applications; with considerations given for competitive players and those who are regular attendees of Flagstick tournaments. The champion of the current year's Flagstick Open (presented by TaylorMade and adidas) will also be exempt into the field.

The 6600-yard golf course at Smugglers Glen was designed by Boyd Barr. The layout was the long-time vision of the Seal family who have owned and operated the Glen House Resort since 1962. It was nominated for the Best New Golf Course in Canada Award in 2006 by Golf Digest. Since then it has annually received recognition in the Flagstick Golf Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards and proved to be a worthy host for the PGA TOUR Canada in 2012 for the initial playing of The Great Waterway Classic.

 

It was and continues to be a hearty example of how golf fits well in the Canadian Shield. The land is marked by rolling topography providing a bevy of drops and rises, along with a natural accent of white pines, granite outcroppings and indigenous plant life.

 2024 Now Open! - The Flagstick.com Shootout is a limited field event and although a specific index is not required to be considered for a spot in the field. We will be giving preference to players that have the ability to be competitive so an index of 6 or better is encouraged for entrants. All players will be held on the waitlist until registration closes.  We are currently making selections for the 72 player field and those not selected into the field will be remain on the waitlist to potentially be added later.
